Provides hospitality and direct services to the homeless and poor of Rhode Island. Offers Transitional Housing Program for men and women who are homeless and looking to achieve sobriety. Permanent supportive housing includes five rooming houses (35 rooms) and 22 apartments. First priority is given to graduates of the 90-Day Transitional Housing Program. Residents live in a clean and sober community and continue to benefit from Amos House programs and services. Registered Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site: Staff of tax preparers are IRS trained, tested, and certified to help people who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit program receive the tax credits they deserve. Saint Elizabeth Manor is a skilled nursing and rehab center in Bristol and has a long history of providing quality care in the East Bay. With 133 beds, Saint Elizabeth Manor provides short term rehab, long-term care, specialized memory care, and hospice care.

Member of the Assistive Technology Access Partnership: Device demonstration, device loan, device re-use; training, public awareness, collaboration, information and referral. Provides demonstrations, training, and long-term loan and device reutilization services of specialized telephone equipment to qualified individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, have a speech disability, or have neuromuscular damage or disease, which hinders them from using a standard telephone. Assistive Technology Many people with disabilities face barriers that prevent them from living independently in their homes, and in many cases, they are also unaware of the many devices that can improve their daily lives. OSCIL works with individuals to acquire appropriate devices and provide training on the use of those devices to enhance the individual’s independence within their home and community. Assistive Technology Access Partnership (ATAP) OSCIL is one of 4 partners participating in the Assistive Technology Access Partnership (ATAP) program. ATAP is designed as a statewide partnership of organizations, each with a targeted assistive technology focus, working together to improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology for individuals with disabilities. Some programs may have income limits. An OSCIL Independent Living Coordinator will be happy to guide you and recommend the best program for your unique needs. OSCIL CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY TO MODIFY YOUR HOME TO HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS AND INDEPENDENTLY CONTROL YOUR ENVIRONMENT. OSCIL offers opportunities for persons with disabilities to share similar interests and concerns and gain greater awareness of opportunities for independence. People are encouraged to call OSCIL at any time for this connection. Peer support is one of the fundamentals of a CIL. Peer “mentors” provide role modeling and share experiences, feelings, and awareness of disability issues. Through peer support there is a full exchange of brainstorming, problem solving, and sharing of concerns, successes and ways to address issues. The peer support relationship allows for the more experienced person to provide information and support and serve as a positive role model to the person whose disability might be new or more recent. Many of OSCIL staff members provide peer support in a number of areas, including but not limited to: visual and hearing impairments, arthritis, orthopedic issues, diabetes, and more. PEER SUPPORT GROUPS OSCIL holds several monthly peer support groups, the purpose of which is to provide individuals with similar issues a chance to talk about their own conditions, experiences and concerns. When there are physical barriers in the home that need to be addressed; through the Home Access/Home Modification program, OSCIL offers a comprehensive independent living assessment services as requested by private individuals, vendors, Medicaid and State agencies. Comprehensive assessments provide recommendations for specialized equipment, home modifications and/or independent living services that are required for the consumer to achieve goals for independence in the home and community. This might include making modifications to the home itself such as adding a ramp or renovating a bathroom.
