The 9 Yards program provides long term, comprehensive services to small groups of individuals getting out of prison. The program provides a variety of classes and support in prison, followed by transitional housing, case management, and employment coaching. The program has been proven to reduce recidivism by more than 50%. Reentry Case Management program works with participants up to six months prior to release from prison. OpenDoors is contracted through the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (DOC) to provide discharge plans to inmates in the Men's Minimum Security Facility at the DOC. This is done in both individual and group formats in an attempt to reach as many as possible of the over 1,200 discharges per year from that facility. Individual 14-point plans addressing different life-areas are established for clients with longer sentences, while comprehensive written information on available services is provided to group participants who typically have short sentences. All clients are encouraged to follow up with the resource center. Walk-in resource center, accepts drop-in visits from any formerly incarcerated person. We maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive file of resources in major life areas such as housing, employment, education, medical, mental health, substance abuse, and transportation. Clients can use our telephone or computer lab to communicate with employers, family members, and probation or parole officers. Our resource center has a full schedule of programming, ranging from job readiness to financial literacy to support groups. We can also serve as a temporary address. This support group is facilitated by Arthur Mercurio of the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) at Bradley Hospital. It is free and meets the second Monday of each month. A Brown University affiliated psychiatric center providing care for infants, children, adolescents, young adults and their families. Services include a full range of mental health and special educational programs for children with emotional and/or developmental disabilities. Treatment is provided through a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, special education teachers, speech and language pathologists, pediatricians and milieu therapists. **Center for Autism Director: Rowland Barrett, Ph.D. Services: Highly specialized inpatient, partial hospitalization outpatient program for children and young adults with emotional and behavioral disorders combined with a developmental disability such as retardation and autism. **Inpatient Services Director: Child and Adolescent: Henry Sachs, MD Services: Comprehensive multi-disciplinary treatment program for children/ adolescents in crisis. Services include stabilization, short-term treatment in a secure environment, 24 hour care in a less restrictive environment, partial hospitalization for children who can return home at night and in-home care. **Outpatient Services Director: Karyn Horowitz, MD Services: A full range of outpatient evaluation and treatment programs. To volunteer as a mentor you must be: At least 19 years old, Open minded and non-judgmental, Open to diversity, Willing to commit to a minimum of one year to the program (or three semesters if college student), Able to spend three or four hours each week or every other week with a child, Able to establish and maintain a one-to-one relationship with a child, Able to access an insured car or willing to take public transportation. Programs Include: Traditional Program - The Traditional Mentoring Program matches at-risk girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 15, in long-term, one-to-one relationships with adult female and male volunteer mentors. �Big Mentor League� Program - This is a special program provided by Big Sisters of Rhode Island, in partnership with the Urban League of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership working with girls & boys who have a parent currently incarcerated. The girls/boys range in age from 4 to 18 years old and are from all over Rhode Island. Hermana(o) a Hermana(o) - BBBSOS matches Latina girls/Latino boys with mentors. The girls/boys are considered to be at-risk for academic failure or delinquency or lacking a strong role model. School-Based Mentoring - This program provides mentorship to both girls and boys after class at their school. This program provides a structured environment to assist in academic success. Donation Center - The BSRI Donation Center provides a sustained source of revenue for the vital social service activities of the agency by collecting donations of gently used clothing, household items, small appliances, books and toys (also accepts TV's, computers, and other large electronics for a $10 processing fee) through a combination of scheduled home pick-ups, on-site clothing drop-offs, and targeted community clothing drives.
