Neighbors Helping Neighbors Rhode Island is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families stay in their homes through a variety of ways, primarily by providing necessary home repairs and modifications. NHN RI offers services including building wheelchair ramps, painting houses indoor or out, repairing porches or steps, patching roofs, and fixing windows. All of these can make real differences to neighbors in need. Necessary home repairs are often left undone when people are faced with the need to stretch their paycheck, disability check, or Social Security income. In some cases, completing this work is the only way people are able to stay in their homes and remain independent.

One of the core functions of the Ocean State Center for Independent Living is assisting people with disabilities to move out of nursing homes and other institutions into the independent living arrangement of their choice, as well as helping to prevent people with disabilities from entering these institutions. The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL), a non-residential, non-profit organization, can help seniors and adults with disabilities who are interested in transitioning from nursing facilities back into the community—either moving back to their own home or apartment or to the home of a relative or friend. OSCIL’s Community Living Option Program has been assisting persons with disabilities to move from a nursing home setting to a less restrictive environment for many years. OSCIL staff is able to work with each individual to identify their specific needs, help secure appropriate housing, establish community connections and obtain support services—all necessary for a safe and sustainable transition. Girl Scouting helps cultivate values, social conscience and self-esteem in girls, while also teaching them critical life skills that will enable them to succeed as adults. In Girl Scouting, and its special girl only environment, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together. The program is delivered through troops comprised of five age levels: Daisy, 5 - 6 years old; Brownie, 6 - 8 years; Junior, 8 - 11 years old; Cadette, 11 - 14 years old and Senior, 14 - 17 years old. Individual memberships are available for girls who cannot attend regular troop meetings. A summer camp program is conducted at six camps throughout the council's area. Bilingual Hispanic staff. Troop Leader/Co-Leader: Work with a group of girls and mentor them as they make new friends and develop connections that will last a lifetime. Troop Family and Friends: Assist with driving, activity planning, snacks, money management, or other tasks necessary to keep the troop running oh-so-smoothly from week to week. Cookie Volunteers: Coordinate the annual cookie sale at the troop level. Set up cookie booths, manage inventory and money, and then watch the girls light up when they earn the rewards for being the best cookie sellers ever! Service Unit Volunteers: Mentor adult volunteers as they work with Girl Scouts to create memories they will never forget.
