Youth Transition For young people with disability, life before completing high school is very different than life afterwards. OSCIL provides a variety of services to help students and recent graduates gain the skills and resources needed to make this transition into adulthood. Assisting youth in transitioning from high school to adult life is a core service provided by OSCIL, including next steps such as going to college or finding employment. Services: The department is comprised of six divisions designed to inform, entertain and enrich the lives of those who participate : ** Adult Day Services--Professionally designed programs to meet the needs of frail individuals with physical and/or cognitive impairments. Professional staff consists of registered nurses, a case manager, physical therapy assistant and certified nursing assistants. Therapeutic programs include music, art, physical, occupational, speech, aroma, pet therapy. Recreational activities include crafts, painting, exercise, gardening, Tai Chi and Yoga for elders. Intergenerational programs with local schools provide enrichment opportunities for both young and old alike. Support and Referral Services for each participant and their families, coordination with physicians and other service providers. Cost is based on a sliding fee scale. Licensed by the RI Department of Elderly Affairs. **Nutrition--Provides hot, nutritious, homemade lunches served at 11:45am, Monday through Friday. Snack bar with freshly baked goods, soups and much more. Night Life--Dinners, Thursday at 5pm in the Spring and Fall. **Programs--Offers activities that enable seniors to expand their horizons, enrich their lives and pursue a variety of interests. Our programs promote wellness, health maintenance, personal dignity and self worth. Individual needs, interests, skills and abilities are addressed through a variety of stimulating educational, social and health activities to improve the quality of life. **Retired Senior Volunteer Program--Allows anyone 55+ years of age the opportunity to help make the community a better place to live by sharing themselves with others. Participants gain personal satisfaction by serving at a public or non-profit agency. They also have fun by participating in interesting and rewarding experiences. Seniors serve from one to 40 hours a week; RSVP provides guidance and support, transportation, meals and insurance for all volunteers. Social Services--A caring staff of professional case managers and a Community Elder Information Specialist is available to provide support and counseling to seniors and their families, provide access to a network of service providers throughout the city and state, assist with the many available services, offer comfort and compassion, visit homebound seniors to assess and case manage, coordinate Support Groups such as Widow/Widower; Arthritis; Reminiscence. Our staff is available to speak to your community organization on a wide variety of issues. ** Transvan, (401) 943-3341--You don't have to be dependent on your family. Transvan, our daily transportation system for 60+ and/or disabled Cranston residents is available to provide transportation anywhere in Cranston, Monday through Friday. Provides shuttles to nearby malls and local markets. Provides transportation to doctors, nursing homes and hospitals in Providence, North Providence, Johnston and Warwick by appointment.

Services: A social change group made up of survivors of domestic violence and a task force from the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence. We work to address issues that affect the lives of women after leaving abusive relationships.

The purpose of the Rhode Island Organizing Project (RIOP) is to promote justice and the common good. RIOP trains leaders to be active in their communities around the issues that are important to them.

Saint Elizabeth Manor is a skilled nursing and rehab center in Bristol and has a long history of providing quality care in the East Bay. With 133 beds, Saint Elizabeth Manor provides short term rehab, long-term care, specialized memory care, and hospice care.

A support group for addicts seeking recovery. Meeting time/place is updated on the website. The agency provides drug abuse services related to cocaine or all other mind altering substances for people of all ages. Service include drug abuse education and prevention through telephone information and literature.

One of the key services OSCIL provides is advocacy both for individuals and within the community as a whole. Advocacy is central to a Center for Independent Living’s mission. CILs offers both individual and systems advocacy. Individual advocacy is assisting an individual with a disability to protect his or her rights or to fight for needed resources. Through systems advocacy, we advance civil rights and equal access for all persons with disabilities on the local, state and federal levels. SYSTEMS ADVOCACY Our Independent Living Coordinators keep up-to-date on programs and legislation which may affect people with disabilities. Consumers are encouraged to contact their community leaders and legislators to inform them of their views on various programs and legislative issues. INDIVIDUAL ADVOCACY We work with people with disabilities to teach valuable self-advocacy skills, including: Learning the rights that they have already and making effective use of those rights. Learning how to effectively communicate their needs to both maintain the rights they already have and to make advancement in expanding the rights of persons with disabilities. OSCIL staff will also work with consumers to advocate for services to meet individual needs, including helping to understand the function and processes (necessary criteria, application process, deadlines, etc.) for Social Security, Vocational Rehabilitation, Medicare/Medicaid, and other service agencies.

Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is a privately owned state-of-the-art facility providing 24-hour emergency care and specialty services for companion animals. The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness who have income and resources below specific financial limits. SSI payments are also made to people age 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial qualifications. You may be eligible to receive SSI monthly payments even if you are already receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or retirement benefits.

The Providence Center School is a special education school for students in preschool through grade 12 diagnosed with emotional and behavioral disorders

Mae’s housing program was established to empower the homeless population to escape the cycle of poverty. Their program has helped hundreds of families get established into a new home by giving them items including bed, kitchen tables, etc. Mae’s housing program helps families in need of establishing long-term residency by not only providing furniture, but also assisting with first month’s rent and deposit. We also house the homeless at motels during emergency situations and when shelter space is not available.

Services: Houses 29 families and 8 women daily. Shelter stays are limited to 90 days but can be renewed based on progress demonstrated by participants or impending permanent housing. Case managers assist participants with healthcare, employment and establishing permanent housing. Help also available for: mental health issues, addiction, developmental delays in children, parenting and domestic violence. Case managers access services directly through Family Resources Community Action Program or collaborative agreements with other local non profit organizations.

The Bay Center was designed and built serve the community as a living classroom and center for marine science educational programs, administrative offices and community meeting space. The trails on STB's grounds are part of the Providence Urban Greenway Trail, inviting community members to enjoy this rare and beautiful urban access point to the Bay from sunup to sundown. The building itself represents Save The Bay’s approach to brownfields redevelopment and environmentally-friendly shoreline development.

Programs are based on the residency of a professional string musician whose members teach, perform and mentor youth. Programs are available during the school year and one week in July during the Summer.
