Elders experiencing abuse, neglect and/or crime are aided with intervention, advocacy and education to resolve or avoid victimization.

Medicare is managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Social Security works with CMS by enrolling people in Medicare. Medicare is the country’s health insurance program for people age 65 or older. Certain people younger than age 65 can qualify for Medicare, too, including those with disabilities and those who have permanent kidney failure.

Mental health services in a fully integrated model alongside medical services. Thundermist’s behavioral health team includes licensed social workers, mental health counselors, and psychiatric clinical nurse specialists. They provide individual and group counseling, integrated behavioral health interventions, case management, and referrals. Thundermist behavioral health services program provides open access and immediate crisis-oriented interventions to patients, as well as follow up.

Maternal Child Home Visiting provides child development, health and social services to newborns and their families as well as families with young children. Healthy Families America (HFA) is designed to help parents with understanding and caring for their infant’s needs, building strong parent child connections, breastfeeding and feeding support, and helping children learn and grow to reach their potential. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a home based program that supports parents by teaching them the skills they need to teach their children and enhance their development and also supports families with monthly community activities and family events. Both programs enrolls pregnant families and families with children up to 4 years old. Both programs are free and help families connect with other services and supports that they feel they need.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Feeding and Nutrition Program provides food vouchers, allowing them to purchase milk, eggs, cheese, juice and iron fortified cereals and formula. The WIC coordinator provides nutrition education and counseling to all program participants on a monthly basis.

Support and advocacy for the blind. Monthly meetings focus mainly on advocacy activities such as legislative and public policy development and public education. However, peer support for individuals is available and provided as needed. Purpose of the group is to foster positive attitudes towards blindness for both the blind and sighted communities. Chapters The Greater Providence Chapter of the NFB of RI meets on the second Saturday of each month, except for the months of July and October from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and they are preceded by a social half hour at 10 Office Parkway, in East Providence. The Mount Hope Chapter of the NFB of RI meets on the third Thursday of each month, except for October and December from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, preceded by a social half hour. When there are physical barriers in the home that need to be addressed; through the Home Access/Home Modification program, OSCIL offers a comprehensive independent living assessment services as requested by private individuals, vendors, Medicaid and State agencies. Comprehensive assessments provide recommendations for specialized equipment, home modifications and/or independent living services that are required for the consumer to achieve goals for independence in the home and community. This might include making modifications to the home itself such as adding a ramp or renovating a bathroom.

The Senior and Disabilities Services at United Way, also known as the POINT, is a statewide resource network that provides information, referrals, and long-term care options to seniors, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers. Get valuable information and assistance about:
