Refugee Resettlement Services: In affiliation with Migration & Refugee Services (MRS) of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), staff provides refugee resettlement services. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has been collaborating with the USCCB/MRS for nearly 30 years in their humanitarian mission of the resettlement of refugees in the United States. This program is appropriate for anyone in need of immigration services and refugee resettlement casework and is available in multiple languages including: English, Spanish, French, Tigrini and Amharic.
The application process varies depending on the immigration status of the individual and application guidelines vary depending on the immigration status. There are fees required by the Department of Homeland Security. In addition, the diocesan office has a fee schedule for the services provided. The financial situation of the client is considered; fees are based on the individual’s income, and payment plans are available.

Whether you’re looking to apply for citizenship, secure or renew your Green Card, petition family members to come to the U.S., pay for an immigration detention bond, or take any number of other immigration steps, it can cost several hundred to several thousands in legal costs and government fees.
You must:
-Have a bank account
-Reside in Rhode Island, Florida, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas or Colorado.
-Have an income
We will need the following documents after you submit your application:
-Two months' bank account statements (3 months' if you are applying for $2,000 or more)
-A referral form from a community agency or immigration attorney providing proof of eligibility for the immigration step you seek to take ( form here)
-If the purpose if the loan is to pay for an immigration detention bond, we instead require a copy of the judge's immigration order, and we may ask for additional documentation.
-Copy of government-issued ID
-Voided check or prepaid card with ACH features
-We may ask for additional documents after you apply

From airport pick-up to securing housing, providing cultural orientation and intensive case management, health screenings, and enrolling children in school and adults in our in-house Educating and Training Program, we serve the immediate needs of resettled refugees. Our goal is to empower recently arrived refugees by providing them with the necessary tools and information to successfully transition into their new communities. The U.S. government places refugees in 49 states by working with none private non-profit national agencies, and Dorcas International is an affiliate partner of one of these official agencies.

Higher Ground International is a forward thinking and culturally grounded inter-generational social service NGO that advocates and provides programs for West African Immigrants, Refugees and Marginalized Communities in Rhode Island and Rural Villages in Liberia, West Africa.
Located on the South side of Providence, Rhode Island, HGI's vibrant and welcoming RUKIYA CENTER provides members of the West African Immigrants and Refugees community with elder services (Sweetie Care, African Elders Enrichment Program), Soft skills pre-employment and workforce development, literacy classes for women, basic computer and design classes, therapeutic arts, cultural enrichment, advocacy, case management, immigration & citizenship classesand other wraparound services for youth and families. HGI’s for-profit arm, Broken Pieces International, engages adults, at-risk youth and other under-served populations in the design and manufacture of clothing and accessories that reflect the character and community of both HGI and the West African diaspora. This provides them with vital job training and economic opportunities, and the revenue generated supports HGI’s work in Liberia. This innovative model fosters important connections to the culture and history of the mother country for Liberians living abroad, and reinforces HGI’s mission to uplift communities through empowerment and self-sustainability.
Sweetie Care African Elders Enrichment Program, Social Services, Cultural Services-Food is distributed on the THIRD (3rd) Thursdays of each month, except for December where the focus is fully on our elders for the holidays.
The month of November is dedicated to HGI's annual Traditional & Ethnic Thanksgiving Food Distribution which is extended to 500 people/families.
Participants MUST preregister to be included in the food distribution list that consists of 300 families per month. Participants must visit Higher Ground International Rukiya Center to inquire about signing up.
There are no food distributions for the month of December.
Transformational Services HGI offers a variety of cultural services, including culturally- centered community events, music, dance, stories.
Culturally Appropriate non-perishable and staple food items, in partnership with Meals on Wheels Rhode Island, a weekly cultural food cafe.
HGI's Women's Workforce Program provides workforce readiness education and training to female refugees and immigrants and prepares them for careers in: Manufacturing, Textiles, Social Enterprises.
