Behind the Walls: DARE’s prison reform committee, which unites people inside the prison with their friends, families, community members, and former inmates on the outside. Together, we fight for systemic changes in the criminal justice system, by advocating for progressive legislation at the state level and organizing our community to build strength and solidarity among people affected by the Prison Industrial Complex.

The Ocean Tides School Providence Campus is an alternative day school for students in grades seven through twelve. Offering a full high school Rhode Island Regents diploma, the school is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Additionally, the Providence Campus offers a certified special education program and a career/technical education program. The student body at the Providence Campus is comprised of students referred by their school district for educational purposes (both regular and special education) and career/technical training. Each candidate is screened by the Director of Special Education and the Principal before admittance to ensure the student is ready and willing to enter the program. Given the severe educational difficulties these students have experienced in the past, Ocean Tides seeks to provide creative, individualized programs that meet the needs of all students. CODAC offers psychiatric and mental health services at all of their locations. After an initial intake screening you may be referred to an on-site psychiatric practitioner for further evaluation and treatment. Individualized treatment and recovery plans might include medication management supervised by the psychiatric practitioner and ongoing co-occurring counseling with clinical staff.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors Rhode Island is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families stay in their homes through a variety of ways, primarily by providing necessary home repairs and modifications. NHN RI offers services including building wheelchair ramps, painting houses indoor or out, repairing porches or steps, patching roofs, and fixing windows. All of these can make real differences to neighbors in need. Necessary home repairs are often left undone when people are faced with the need to stretch their paycheck, disability check, or Social Security income. In some cases, completing this work is the only way people are able to stay in their homes and remain independent.

Service can be customized to fit client needs including 24 hour care, respite care, or relief for family and dementia care. Personal Care Services: Bathing, grooming, hygiene, mobility assistance transferring and positioning, toileting and incontinence, feeding and special diet. Companionship Services: Meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, errands, incidental transportation, medication reminders.

The meetings are drop-in groups and offers support to abused women. Confidentiality is stressed and women may come once or often. The focus is on better understanding of the abuse problem, be it emotional, physical or sexual, current or past. The goal is empowerment of the individual.

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) contributes to public safety by maintaining a balanced correctional system of institutional and community programs that provide a range of custodial options, supervision and rehabilitative services in order to facilitate successful offender reentry into the community upon release.

Provide adult services that includes adult day health, day habilitation, community-based day supports, adult residential services, shared living, RIte @ Home, brain injury supports, Alzheimer's and Related Dementias. Also provide services for children that includes Early Intervention, specialized community-based HBTS (Home-Based Therapeutic Services) and PASS (Personal Assistance Services and Supports), and Transition Age programs for young adults, ages 19-22, who are preparing for adulthood.

Services: Thirteen senior meal sites in northern Rhode Island serve a weekday lunch geared to the nutrition requirements of people over 60 (reservations required). First Connections at Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice provides free, voluntary, confidential home visits in to pregnant women and families with young children. Conduct home visits: Trained nurses, social workers, and community health workers meet with families in their homes to talk about their needs, answer questions they may have, and conduct comprehensive assessments. If needed, home visitors can make arrangements for interpretation services during home visits. If you are an expecting parent, you may be contacted after the birth of your child to arrange a home visit. Engage families who may benefit from home visits. Link families with medical homes and social services: Home visits are based on the needs of the family. Visit topics may include health education and connections with appropriate healthcare services, human services, and community resources. If a child does not have a medical home, VNHH can help the family find one. Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice can also conduct child wellness screenings and communicate the results with the child’s healthcare provider.
