Sponsored by the Rhode Island Office of Healthy Aging and federally funded by the Corporation for National & Community Service, senior companions are over the age of 55 and provide companionship and reassurance with seniors and adults with special needs. Companions visit, listen, comfort, help and encourage clients to maintain as much independence as possible. Presently, the diocese has senior companions serving a number of seniors in the community.

During your sessions, you will create a personal finance action plan. You’ll even learn how to take care of your health in an affordable way. We will work with you to accomplish your goals , whether you want to get out of debt, save for college, or simply learn how to manage your money more effectively. Participants make 12 monthly payments of $15, which we will be reported to all three credit bureaus as a 0% loan. The goal is to improve your credit score with each on-time, monthly payment. Credit Builder Program: Their Credit Builder Program is a great way to increase your credit score! Financial Coaching Hotline: They launched this Hotline to provide immediate support to individuals who are in a financial emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic and need immediate answers. People who have been laid off, who aren’t sure how to navigate unemployment, who may not know how to bridge the gap until they start receiving unemployment checks, are all encouraged to call during their extended hours or video conference via Zoom. The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL) works in collaboration with the Gift of Hearing Program at the University of Rhode Island (URI) Speech & Hearing Center to provide low cost hearing aids to those in need.

Higher Ground International is a forward thinking and culturally grounded inter-generational social service NGO that advocates and provides programs for West African Immigrants, Refugees and Marginalized Communities in Rhode Island and Rural Villages in Liberia, West Africa. Located on the South side of Providence, Rhode Island, HGI's vibrant and welcoming RUKIYA CENTER provides members of the West African Immigrants and Refugees community with elder services (Sweetie Care, African Elders Enrichment Program), Soft skills pre-employment and workforce development, literacy classes for women, basic computer and design classes, therapeutic arts, cultural enrichment, advocacy, case management, immigration & citizenship classesand other wraparound services for youth and families. HGI’s for-profit arm, Broken Pieces International, engages adults, at-risk youth and other under-served populations in the design and manufacture of clothing and accessories that reflect the character and community of both HGI and the West African diaspora. This provides them with vital job training and economic opportunities, and the revenue generated supports HGI’s work in Liberia. An adult facility that trains students from a great diversity of many populations. The training programs focus on four main areas:

Medicare is managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Social Security works with CMS by enrolling people in Medicare. Medicare is the country’s health insurance program for people age 65 or older. Certain people younger than age 65 can qualify for Medicare, too, including those with disabilities and those who have permanent kidney failure.

Head Start educators work with families and children to implement developmental and socialization strategies that work best for you and your child. Our classrooms are bright and inviting and are designed to maximize creativity and learning. Healthy lunches and snacks are provided to children daily. In addition to providing educational and nutritional resources, children will have access to health and dental screenings at no cost, and families will be provided with health referrals and referrals for emergency services whenever needed. Hospice care is provided to patients who have advanced diseases that are considered incurable. Hospice care is about living each day to its fullest and helps to make a patient’s last months and days as comfortable and fulfilling as possible…making every moment count. Care is provided in the familiar surroundings of home or home-like setting. Care can also be provided in a long-term care setting or a hospital. The Hospice team focuses on patients’ and their loved ones’ physical, emotional and spiritual comfort. The goal is for the patient and family to spend their remaining days with comfort and dignity. Hospice team visits regularly and is available to answer questions and provide support. The team helps prepare family and friends for the loss of a loved one, and help them deal with their grief through bereavement support groups.
