Free, confidential, one-to-one literacy tutoring in reading, writing and English to East Bay adults. We teach basic literacy skills, GED skills, and ESL (English as a Second Language) skills. Volunteers test and tutor students, serve on our board, maintain our mailing lists, man our computer lab and other tasks.

Jamestown Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health and Rhode Island Emergency Management, implements policies related to hazard mitigation and emergency management programs and activities. The EMA also has general supervision of all civil preparedness duties and performs any other duties as assigned by the Town Manager. Jamestown EMA staff is trained to distribute medical supplies, food and water at times when it may be required. Shelter: Melrose School, located at 76 Melrose Ave will be operational and staffed in partnership with the Rhode Red Cross at anytime that residents may be required to leave their homes. The staff at the shelter is trained to provide basic needs including food, water and medical treatment. Pets may also be sheltered at the Lawn Avenue School during these events.

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is responsible for planning, funding and overseeing a community system of services and supports for adults with developmental disabilities. They fund a statewide network of community services and supports for Rhode Islanders living with intellectual and significant developmental disabilities. These services are available through community provider agencies.

Project Outreach established in early 1970s by the former Washington Park United Methodist Church provides emergency assistance to surrounding neighbors in times of need: food pantry, bread distribution, utility and rental assistance programs, educational programs for adults and children, prescription help for the uninsured, exercise programs in gym, and ESL and GED programs.

Community Care Alliance strives to empower people experiencing economic insecurity, mental illness and addiction, housing issues, and trauma-related concerns. They provide clinical and support services for individuals and families with long-term needs associated with mental illness and substance abuse. Their goal is to help people live as independently and as fully integrated within the community as possible These might include basic needs assistance to address emergencies— counseling, treatment, support services and residential programs for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness and addiction— emergency and supportive housing to prevent homelessness and promote stabilization— alternative education and services for families with young children and adolescents— and employment, financial literacy and vocational training to improve self-sufficiency.

A licensed skilled nursing facility (SNF) that provides Short Term Rehab (physical, occupational & speech therapy) and long-term care services for up to 50 residents at Forest Farm Assisted Living. Forest Farm is staffed on a 24-hour basis with qualified nurses and certified nursing assistants. Dementia and Alzheimer's Services provides compassionate support for those who are caring for a loved one with dementia. They provide information, education and support for individuals with these diseases, along with the families and professionals who care for them.

Cedar Crest Subacute and Rehabilitation programs, a 156 bed medical center, were designed for patients with physical, medical and cognitive impairments who would benefit from patient-centered care and an interdisciplinary team approach. Our goal is to work with patients to achieve their optimum level of functioning. When those treatment goals are met, the patient is ready to move on. Treatment plans can include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language therapy, along with nursing care oriented to the needs of rehabilitation patients. The patients most appropriate for this program are those whose diagnoses are orthopedic conditions, stroke, neurological disorders, or those who have experienced general weakness or de-conditioning following surgery or an illness. The Cumberland Senior Center is committed to providing an array of quality services to enrich and educate their senior citizens. They encourage and assist individuals in achieving a lifestyle in which they can remain an active and productive member of the community. Services include day trips and exercise classes. Membership is $8 per year to join the Cumberland Senior Center. Non-residents' cost is $12 for the annual membership. Programs: a variety of educational, informational and recreational programs for seniors are offered through the year. Senior Van - transportation is available, including center pick-ups and drop-offs, for local shopping and appointments. Daily Lunches - $3 lunches are served daily at 11:30. Reservations are needed.

Solutions is a program of Family Service of Rhode Island that provides care coordination across a continuum of service providers involved with children and their families. This continuum includes medical, educational, mental health and other providers. Programs that pick up and impound or return to their owners domestic animals who have strayed from their homes. Also included are programs that enforce leash laws and animal sanitation ordinances and those that handle complaints regarding domestic animals who have bitten someone or are otherwise making nuisances of themselves. Most animal control programs are unable to handle nuisance wildlife unless the animal is sick or shows symptoms of rabies.
