MLK Jr. Community Center is a nonprofit service provider for at-risk individuals, families and seniors. Hunger Services On Site Food Pantry - providing non-perishable food, frozen meat, fresh produce, bread and household and personal care items to our Newport County residents. All clients are eligible to shop once per month. Mobile Food Pantry - visits neighborhoods across Newport County each month on a rotating schedule. Food 2 Friends - monthly food delivery service to home-bound neighbors and people unable to come to the on-site food pantry. Contact Jose Ramos at 401-846-4828 x 207 to get an application form. Breakfast Program - Mon-Fri 7:30 - 9:00. Serve a hot breakfast to eat in or take out. Enter through the Edward Street Entrance. Lunch Program - Tues, Thurs and Fri 11:30 - 1:00. The Division of Veterans Affairs maintains a dignified and solemn military cemetery on 265 acres in Exeter, Rhode Island. Committals are conducted with military honors and memorial services are provided at the facility as well. The grounds of the cemetery are beautifully maintained and include memorials dedicated to veterans of specific wars and conflicts, including the recently dedicated Korean War Memorial. The facility includes a Memorial Chapel/Committal Building that is available for a service not longer than 10 minutes on the day of burial.

They provide clinical and support services for individuals and families with long-term needs associated with mental illness and substance abuse. Their goal is to help people live as independently and as fully integrated within the community as possible These might include basic needs assistance to address emergencies— counseling, treatment, support services and residential programs for individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness and addiction— emergency and supportive housing to prevent homelessness and promote stabilization— alternative education and services for families with young children and adolescents— and employment, financial literacy and vocational training to improve self-sufficiency.

Provides demonstrations, training, and long-term loan and device reutilization services of specialized telephone equipment to qualified individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, have a speech disability, or have neuromuscular damage or disease, which hinders them from using a standard telephone. Assistive Technology Many people with disabilities face barriers that prevent them from living independently in their homes, and in many cases, they are also unaware of the many devices that can improve their daily lives. OSCIL works with individuals to acquire appropriate devices and provide training on the use of those devices to enhance the individual’s independence within their home and community. Assistive Technology Access Partnership (ATAP) OSCIL is one of 4 partners participating in the Assistive Technology Access Partnership (ATAP) program. ATAP is designed as a statewide partnership of organizations, each with a targeted assistive technology focus, working together to improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology for individuals with disabilities. Some programs may have income limits. An OSCIL Independent Living Coordinator will be happy to guide you and recommend the best program for your unique needs. OSCIL CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY TO MODIFY YOUR HOME TO HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS AND INDEPENDENTLY CONTROL YOUR ENVIRONMENT. Individuals with disabilities may apply for technology through this program.
