OSCIL assist people with disabilities in locating available services and products such as affordable, accessible housing, transportation options, adaptive equipment, support services, and more. OSCIL’s Information and Referral program provides consumers and their families, service providers, and the general public with information on a wide array of community resources and disability services. Information can be obtained via phone, e-mail, fax or in person. OSCIL’s Signs of Independence quarterly newsletter provides information on disability issues to consumers and service providers. As a designated agency for “The Point”, OSCIL Information and Referral Coordinators provide up-to-date information on a vast array of agency and community services. The purpose of this is to bring solutions to the problems faced by individuals with disabilities.

The Office of the Attorney General Consumer Protection Unit investigates and mediates consumer complaints concerning unfair and unlawful business practices and misleading advertising arising out of alleged violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act. If groups of people are victimized by a deceptive trade practice, this office may file in the Superior Court a civil investigative demand, which is a formal investigation. In appropriate cases, a lawsuit to stop the illegal business practice may be initiated. Apart from carrying out its statutory responsibilities, the Unit also provides information and referral services to the general public. Consumers are directed to the appropriate governmental or private agencies for help in answering specialized questions or resolving disputes that are not within the Unit's jurisdiction.

Tall Ships America is a nonprofit organization focused on youth education, leadership development and the preservation of the maritime heritage of North America. In addition to organizing the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE Series, Tall Ships America manages scholarship programs to make sail training experiences more affordable for young people, grant programs to assist crew of member vessels with the costs of professional development courses and licensing requirements and publishes SAIL TALL SHIPS! A Directory of Sail Training and Adventure at Sea. The Tall Ships Challenge Series of international sailing races, cruises, and maritime festivals is organized by Tall Ships America in cooperation with Great Lakes, Atlantic and Pacific Coast port cities in the United States and Canada. Tall ships are crewed by young people and adults engaged in sail training programs under the supervision of captains and professional crew members. Maritime festivals in each host port give visitors a chance to board the vessels, meet the crew and trainees, and experience the rich maritime heritage that these ships represent.

Lawn School is a public school for students in grades 5-8. Jamestown School Department provides a rigorous, standards based curriculum with a balanced literacy program, real-world mathematics, hands-on science and civics education preparing students for 21st century learning. Jamestown schools have adopted computer science, coding and science, technology, engineering, arts & mathematics (S.T.E.A.M) based opportunities as key components of the curriculum. Currently both schools in the district have a fully furnished makerspace lab with 3-d printers, green screens and Edison robots.

A faith-based community outreach program designed to offer after-care services to previously incarcerated persons who are returning to Newport County from the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) and helps the homeless. South Kingstown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center offers licensed rehabilitation and subacute unit and secure Alzheimer’s care as well as long-term care for those in need of assistance with chronic illness or multiple activities of daily living. Richmond Emergency Management Agency implements policies related to hazard mitigation and emergency management programs and activities. The EMA also has general supervision of all civil preparedness duties.

Services: Psychiatric partial hospital program for pregnant or postpartum women experiencing mood or anxiety disorders. Postpartum women bring their infants to the program. Wheelchair accessible. Meetings: Call for information.

Child Outreach is a free service offered to all children 3 to 5 years old. Child Outreach provides information about your child’s development and resources that are available within your community. It can also help identify children who may need further assessment, intervention and/ or services at an early age to promote positive outcomes in kindergarten and beyond. The screening is provided free of charge and they go to all community preschool/childcare centers, libraries, schools, etc.

For students with mild learning disabilities there is a Resource Program. For students with mild attention difficulties (ADHD), there is a focus program. Tutoring is available as well.

Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island offers reduced or no charge services for emergency and other medically necessary care for individuals eligible under our Financial Assistance Policy. Eligibility is based on the Hospital’s Financial Assistance Policy, which includes using the Federal Poverty Level guidelines, number of dependents, and gross annual income along with supportive income documents.
