The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness who have income and resources below specific financial limits. SSI payments are also made to people age 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial qualifications. You may be eligible to receive SSI monthly payments even if you are already receiving Social Security Disability Insurance or retirement benefits.

Our classrooms are bright and inviting and are designed to maximize creativity and learning. Healthy lunches and snacks are provided to children daily. In addition to providing educational and nutritional resources, children will have access to health and dental screenings at no cost, and families will be provided with health referrals and referrals for emergency services whenever needed. We recruit families 12 months per year. Head Start Program provides a center-based, comprehensive early childhood education program for 76 children from ages three to Five years old. The Tri-County Early Head Start program offers a home-based option for children aged birth to three years old, in which an educator visits the home once per week to engage the child in educational and developmental activities, and socialization strategies. Classroom-based options are available for children ages 18 months to 3 years old, and focus on fun and engaging curriculum to prepare the child for pre-school. Early Head Start is a federal program for eligible families, that are expecting a child, or with a child ages birth to three years old. The program provides services that promote cognitive, language and social-emotional development of the child. Children enrolled in the program will receive medical and dental screenings at no cost, and families are provided with assistance locating health care, and emergency services whenever needed. The Early Head Start program provides center-based early education services to 8 children in one classroom. Early Head Start also offers home-based services to 22 children and families including 5 prenatal clients. Families residing in the towns of North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Hopkinton, Richmond, Exeter, Charlestown, Westerly, and New Shoreham are eligible for the program. Eligibility Guidelines: The programs service families with income at or below the federal poverty guidelines, children in living in foster care, and families experiencing homelessness. Ten percent of enrollment slots must be filled with children with a diagnosed disability. The Joyful Learning Child Academy: is a pre-school and early education program that services families with young children. The program provides comprehensive early education and development services to infants and children six weeks through five years of age. Joyful Learning is licensed by the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families and is accredited by the RI Department of Education. Furthermore, the program was awarded 4 stars under the BrightStars ratings system as defined by the Rhode Island Association for the Education of Young Children [RIAEYC]. The Center, located at 1935 Kingstown Road in Wakefield, is open year round, Monday through Friday from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm. Joyful Learning provides children with a best-practice curriculum in early childhood education and maintains the most stringent of regulations in regard to staffing, per RI State licensing. All staff has education requirements as per directives of DCYF and RIDE and must complete extensive background checks prior to employment. Senior & Disabled Adults Programs: Tri-County’s Senior and Disabled Adult Case Managers are available to assist with a multitude of services including nutrition services, healthcare and medical assistance, home health aides, home modifications, elder abuse prevention, and when necessary, nursing home referrals. Newport Heights is a mixed-income development located on Aquidneck Island. In total, there are 49 market-rate apartments and 250 affordable apartments that have various layers of subsidy available to tenants.

Child Outreach is a free service offered to all children 3 to 5 years old. Child Outreach provides information about your child’s development and resources that are available within your community. It can also help identify children who may need further assessment, intervention and/ or services at an early age to promote positive outcomes in kindergarten and beyond.

OSCIL works together with state and local government and public entities to eliminate architectural, communication, and attitudinal barriers. OSCIL has provided technical assistance to T.F. Greene Airport, area hospitals, Roger Williams Park, the Board of Canvassers, and many other private businesses and organizations to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and Rhode Island Law 42-87-2. Individuals who experience barriers in the community, i.e. inaccessible restaurants, public events, schools, etc. are encouraged to call OSCIL for information and assistance. Part of OSCIL’s mission is to bring information to the community to help address barriers to independent living. Services: Heating Assistance & Weatherization Head Start Food Distribution Emergency Services Employment and Training WIC Tri-County’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, offers assistance with managing costs associated with home energy bills. Weatherization Program assists low-income individuals and families to permanently reduce their energy consumption and increase energy efficiency, thereby reducing the cost of energy bills. Energy audits are conducted in the home by their staff of qualified and friendly auditors. Energy audits will determine the need for insulation, weather-stripping, air sealing, pipe wrapping, and replacement of windows. Must meet income eligibility guidelines. Food Distribution: Offers assistance with all aspects of essential needs and daily living, including food assistance. They welcome individuals to visit their food pantries once per month, and offer distribution of canned goods, pasta, grain, juice, peanut butter, rice and flour and other foods as contributed through the State of Rhode Island and purchased through the Rhode Island Food Bank. The program provides youth with work experience opportunities in local businesses, public facilities and non-profit agencies. Work experiences provide youth with hands-on opportunities to develop the skills they will need upon entering the work force. Youth receive wages and other payments upon attaining certain benchmarks relative to their job performance. Youth also participate in a variety of career and personal development activities such as community service projects, field trips, post secondary exploration, and guest speakers from key RI industries. Youth Opportunity Center: Part of the State’s Youth works 411 system, the Youth Center provides academic and occupational assessment and exploration, employment assistance, paid and unpaid work experiences, intensive case management, job coaching, leadership skills, life skills training, tracking and follow up. Open to youth ages 14 -24 years old, for both in-school and out-of-school. The Tri-County Community Action Agency Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides supplemental foods, healthcare referrals and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. Upon enrollment into the WIC program, we will complete a nutritional assessment for you and your eligible family members. We will then offer education on healthy eating, monthly vouchers for nutritious foods including eggs, milk, cheese, peanut butter, beans, tuna, fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads, rice, iron fortified cereals, and juice as well as many other valuable resources. Breastfeeding and lactation support and education are also available through the WIC program.

CODAC offers psychiatric and mental health services at all of their locations. After an initial intake screening you may be referred to an on-site psychiatric practitioner for further evaluation and treatment. Individualized treatment and recovery plans might include medication management supervised by the psychiatric practitioner and ongoing co-occurring counseling with clinical staff. CODAC’s newest site at Eleanor Slater Hospital offers a program for patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) that has the ability to utilize alternative therapies in managing chronic pain. For many patients participating in this program, mental health services can be an important part of the treatment and recovery process. It is not unusual to have both mental health disorders and a substance use disorder. Because the two conditions are so closely linked, CODAC has responded to offer you effective treatment and recovery programs to address both disorders concurrently.

Services: Families Reaching Into Each New Day. Friends Way provides free peer based support groups, under the direct supervision of mental health professionals, for children and teens who are mourning the death of a loved one, usually a parent or sibling. We also provide crisis intervention, education and training on the subject of children's grief and loss to schools, mental health professionals, clergy and the community at large.

Services: Investigates known or suspected homicides and suicides, deaths associated with accidental causes, unattended deaths and deaths that signal the threat of danger to public health and safety.
