DEA Protective Services Unit is responsible for investigating complaints of elderly abuse of Rhode Islanders 60 and older by a family member, caregiver or person with duty of care.. Abuse may include physical, emotional, sexual, financial exploitation, or abandonment. The DEA Protective Services Unit develops a care plan to prevent additional abuse and address the elder’s social service needs. Self-Neglect occurs when a person is no longer able to care for himself/herself. Reports of self-neglect are also made to the DEA Protective Services Unit. The senior’s needs are assessed and necessary services are 0ffered.

@Home Cost Share: For older adults with care needs, the @Home Cost-Share program is available to help with some care expenses. Eligible participants can access in-home services – such as help with housekeeping, meal preparation or personal care – and/or community-based programming at adult day health centers at a reduced rate. You may be eligible for the program if you are age 65 or older, meet income guidelines, and need some assistance in the home with your personal or health care.

volunteers are people age 55 and older who provide companionship for frail older adults in the home, at day centers, or other community sites. Companions assist with daily tasks, helping those served to remain living in the community for longer. Companions may provide transportation to medical appointments, shopping assistance, meal preparation, and advocacy. They also provide respite to caregivers of frail elders. By remaining active and contributing to their communities, Companions benefit from the program along with the clients they serve.

Jamestown Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health and Rhode Island Emergency Management, implements policies related to hazard mitigation and emergency management programs and activities. The EMA also has general supervision of all civil preparedness duties and performs any other duties as assigned by the Town Manager. Jamestown EMA staff is trained to distribute medical supplies, food and water at times when it may be required. Shelter: Melrose School, located at 76 Melrose Ave will be operational and staffed in partnership with the Rhode Red Cross at anytime that residents may be required to leave their homes. The staff at the shelter is trained to provide basic needs including food, water and medical treatment. Pets may also be sheltered at the Lawn Avenue School during these events.

With seven community-based locations, as well as programming at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RI DOC), CODAC is well-positioned to deliver services wherever they are needed across the state. CODAC offers psychiatric and mental health services at all of their locations. After an initial intake screening you may be referred to an on-site psychiatric practitioner for further evaluation and treatment. Individualized treatment and recovery plans might include medication management supervised by the psychiatric practitioner and ongoing co-occurring counseling with clinical staff. It is not unusual to have both mental health disorders and a substance use disorder. Because the two conditions are so closely linked, CODAC has responded to offer you effective treatment and recovery programs to address both disorders concurrently.

Shower to Empower links basic needs such as complimentary showers and haircuts with case management and medical navigation services in a mobile delivery model. It is aimed to provide basic needs and restore dignity to Rhode Island’s experiencing homelessness, ultimately making connections to essential services. The unit is a customized 20’ x 8.3’ trailer that includes two individual showers, heated floors, an area for case management, and an enclosed private medical space. The mobile unit travels throughout Providence alongside House of Hope CDC’s street outreach team providing hot showers, haircuts, case management, and medical navigation services to individuals experiencing homelessness.
