SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline provides 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters. This crisis support service is for anyone experiencing emotional distress related to disasters such as: Tornadoes and Severe Storms, Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, Floods, Wildfires, Earthquakes, Drought, Incidents of Mass Violence. The Disaster Distress Helpline also answers calls and texts related to infectious disease outbreaks, such as the Ebola outbreak, incidents of community unrest, and other traumatic events. This service is hotline /online only.

Grand Islander Center is the recipient of the American Health Care Association's Bronze, Silver and Gold Quality Awards.

Supported services for adults living with severe and persistent mental illness. Thrive’s Residential Services connects adults who are experiencing severe and persistent mental illness with resources and community-based mental health support in a supported housing environment. The philosophy of Residential Services is based on a comprehensive yet intensive approach to treatment that helps residents achieve their highest quality of life. Thrive’s staff help clients learn how to control the symptoms of their mental illness and achieve increased independence in all aspects of their daily lives. Thrive offers two types of supportive living environments: Group Homes and Supervised Apartments.

Hospital charity care requirements cover those essential services necessary to diagnose, correct, or cure a medical condition that endangers life, causes pain and suffering, results in illness or infirmity, or causes a physical deformity or malfunction. Both inpatient and outpatient services are included. To receive full charity care, patients annual family income must be up to and including 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For partial charity care, patients annual family income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level may receive assistance based on a sliding scale. In addition to income, hospitals have the option to consider other assets. Also must be denied from Medicaid first depending on income. Patients who get accepted will receive financial aid for a year. **For patients who feel that an application or appeal was wrongfully denied should call the RI Dept. of Health info line 222-5960. NRS’ Home Free Program, in collaboration with Greyhound Lines, Inc., helps runaway, homeless, and exploited youth return home safely or get to a safe and stable place to stay where they can receive appropriate services. For youth ages 18 to 21, options include returning home or traveling to an approved ALA, such as confirmed residential services housing, including a transitional or independent living program willing to accept them. Youth who were formerly in the child welfare system have the option to travel to a prior adult caregiver.

Reach Out and Read Rhode Island national nonprofit organization since 1989 now reaching nearly 4.5 million low-income families each year, Reach Out and Read builds on the unique relationship between doctors and patients to spread the message that reading aloud is the most important thing parents can do to help their children love books and start school ready to learn. With more than 5,500 participating programs across the nation, 66 of those here in Rhode Island, Reach Out and Read teaches millions of families the importance of reading aloud.
