Located at the Exeter Chapel. The Exeter Emergency Food Bank (501c3) is separate from the Social Services Dept. However, because it is staffed by volunteers, anyone needing assistance is asked to call the Social Services department to schedule a time to pick up food. Appointments are made for Wednesday mornings beginning at 9 am or Wednesday afternoons. Emergency situations will open the food bank as needed. Donations to the Food Bank can be dropped off at Town Hall or at the Exeter Public Library. Thanksgiving/Winter Holiday baskets and toy distribution for area residents.

VSA arts Rhode Island maintains an ongoing student exhibition at the RI Department of Education's headquarters in downtown Providence to showcase the variety of artwork produced in the Access the Arts residencies and increase exposure for the talents of these student artists. This program expands awareness of the importance of arts in education. VSA arts Rhode Island provides poetry workshops for adults developmental disabilities, conducted by professional poets, at a variety of community sites throughout Rhode Island. A statewide poetry competition is sponsored annually with Blackstone Valley RI ARC. The first place recipient is given the Allen Ginsberg Poetry Prize. Additionally, VSA arts works with Rhode Island poets to participate in the International “One Heart, One World” Exhibition and other national poetry events. VSA arts Rhode Island, in collaboration with community organizations and galleries, presents exhibitions of artwork created by both emerging and established adult RI artists with disabilities, and sponsors artist receptions that engage the general public. Hospital charity care requirements cover those essential services necessary to diagnose, correct, or cure a medical condition that endangers life, causes pain and suffering, results in illness or infirmity, or causes a physical deformity or malfunction. Both inpatient and outpatient services are included. To receive full charity care, patients annual family income must be up to and including 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For partial charity care, patients annual family income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level may receive assistance based on a sliding scale. In addition to income, hospitals have the option to consider other assets. Also must be denied from Medicaid first depending on income. Patients who get accepted will receive financial aid for a year. **For patients who feel that an application or appeal was wrongfully denied should call the RI Dept of Health info line 222-5960. THE SCITUATE ANIMAL SHELTER is a municipal facility under the supervision of Scituate Animal Control, a division of the Scituate, Rhode Island Police Department. They take in animals from Scituate and Foster and provide care until we can find good homes for them. They also socialize all cats and dogs who need such work in order to be ready for life in a home and with a family. The shelter staff and the volunteers will go to great lengths to find homes for all animals that we have at the shelter.

Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to protect homes, businesses and property from the threat of fire. Fire prevention programs provide information about faulty wiring and other electrical hazards, kitchen fires, smoking risks, child-related fire safety, flammable materials storage, brush clearance, fire retardant building materials and ground cover, techniques for fighting a fire until the fire agency arrives (first aid firefighting) and other similar topics. Included are programs that inspect the homes of individual citizens and give them a report which recommends ways to protect their property as well as those that deal with fire safety in a more general way.

Emergency Shelter. This new program exclusively serves unhoused individuals over 55, and is located in the same facility as Amos House's Emergency Family Shelter for individuals ages 55 and up This program provides emergency and stabilizing wrap-around services to 40 individuals. These services include: daily meals, case management, housing location, medical coordination, behavioral health support and more. Street Outreach Program: Outreach Team works with unsheltered individuals who are at risk for violence, providing them with vital supplies, harm reduction materials, case management, and access to housing and recovery services. Housing Assistance: including help covering utility bills, rental assistance, and other costs associated with securing housing. Funds are limited for this program. Hygiene Packets: Each year, Amos House distributes more than 15,000 individual hygiene packets to men, women, and families. IDs and Birth Certificates: Case Managers help those in need cover the fees and navigate the process to obtain an ID or Birth Certificate. A Hand Up: A day labor program for individuals who are panhandling or at risk of panhandling, AHU offers cash payment for daily work and connects them to supportive services intended to help them access other options and greater opportunities.

Volunteer at one or more of 50 plus Community Partners in a myriad of meaningful opportunities or internally at SRIV making a difference in some of the following ways:
  • Independent Aging Services Program: Transport assistance for homebound seniors or disabled adults to healthcare appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores and housing appointments; Delivery of food Meals on Wheels and/or farmers’ markets (or placement at a food pantry); Grocery shopping and delivery for a senior client; Companionship/visitation for a home bound older senior and/or respite care for their full-time caregiver; Minor home repairs (very minor—larger jobs are referred to partner agencies), fall clean ups and snow removal for walkways for senior safety.

Services that support independent living and aging for those 60 years of age and over. Washington County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP-55 plus yrs of age)-Recruitment, training, support and deployment of volunteers through meaningful service opportunities assisting individuals, non-profits and our communities. Community Volunteers Program (individuals 13 to 54 yrs of age)-recruitment, training, support and deployment of volunteers through meaningful service opportunities assisting individuals, non profits and our communities. SRIV Disaster Preparedness and Response Team- SRIV volunteers 13 plus years of age helping during community disasters, crisis and other needs as determined by local emergency management directors. SRIV offers opportunities for our members to use their skills, talents and time to benefit individuals in need and to benefit the greater community. Whether you are a retiree with extra time on your hands, a student looking to fulfill community service hours, a mom or dad with mid-day hours, or an individual or group interested in being involved, SRIV has an opportunity for you! Volunteerism is as flexible as you need it to be at SRIV, we will work with you to help you make a meaningful choice for your service goals.

Rhode Island Zoological Society (RIZS) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports and maintains Roger Williams Park Zoo. RIZS works to secure the public and private sector support needed by the Zoo to continue to develop new world-class exhibits, make significant contributions to conservation, and serve the community as a valuable source of environmental education, recreation, and economic development. Founded in 1962 in order to increase public awareness and support for the Roger Williams Park Zoo. It has effectively communicated the zoo's mission statement of recreation, education, conservation and research. Funds raised have created important exhibits making Roger Williams Park Zoo one of the few nationally prominent zoos in the Northeast.
