When there are physical barriers in the home that need to be addressed; through the Home Access/Home Modification program, OSCIL offers a comprehensive independent living assessment services as requested by private individuals, vendors, Medicaid and State agencies. Comprehensive assessments provide recommendations for specialized equipment, home modifications and/or independent living services that are required for the consumer to achieve goals for independence in the home and community. This might include making modifications to the home itself such as adding a ramp or renovating a bathroom.

Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship
The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship supports the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL by facilitating access to education for persons having disability.
PLEASE NOTE, ONLY RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP.
The Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by Catherine Murray, a long-time educator and also a board member and valued volunteer at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. It was her wish to support the philosophy and spirit of OSCIL through a scholarship that gives people with disability access to higher education.
Grants of $1000+ are awarded to help students with a disability to continue their education past high school. Scholarship funds can be used for educational expenses such as tuition or the purchase of textbooks. They may also be used to obtain assistive/adaptive equipment or devices that aid the student in meeting their educational goals.
To qualify for this scholarship applicants must:
-have a significant disability
-be a Rhode Island resident (Your home address MUST be in RI)
-plan to attend a college, technical school, or a trade/vocational program in the upcoming academic year
Preference is based on career goals, merit, and economic need.
