Social and Human Services Department, located at Beechwood, can address the social and human service needs of all North Kingstown residents, regardless of age. Whether you are an older adult or under age 55, the Department will confidentially discuss your individual circumstances and either assist directly or refer you to other providers in the community. Provides programs and supportive services in the areas of education, creative arts, advocacy, health, nutrition, recreation. Transportation and social services are open to North Kingstown residents only; Center activities are open to anyone 55 or older.

Developer of affordable housing. Lending Programs for the purchase, repair and/or refinancing of an existing home providing HUD approves foreclosure prevention counseling. Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Feeding and Nutrition Program provides food vouchers, allowing them to purchase milk, eggs, cheese, juice and iron fortified cereals and formula. The WIC coordinator provides nutrition education and counseling to all program participants on a monthly basis.

Provides demonstrations, training, and long-term loan and device reutilization services of specialized telephone equipment to qualified individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, have a speech disability, or have neuromuscular damage or disease, which hinders them from using a standard telephone. Assistive Technology Many people with disabilities face barriers that prevent them from living independently in their homes, and in many cases, they are also unaware of the many devices that can improve their daily lives. OSCIL works with individuals to acquire appropriate devices and provide training on the use of those devices to enhance the individual’s independence within their home and community. Assistive Technology Access Partnership (ATAP) OSCIL is one of 4 partners participating in the Assistive Technology Access Partnership (ATAP) program. ATAP is designed as a statewide partnership of organizations, each with a targeted assistive technology focus, working together to improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology for individuals with disabilities. Some programs may have income limits. An OSCIL Independent Living Coordinator will be happy to guide you and recommend the best program for your unique needs. OSCIL CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY TO MODIFY YOUR HOME TO HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS AND INDEPENDENTLY CONTROL YOUR ENVIRONMENT. Individuals with disabilities may apply for technology through this program. This includes devices such as: -Smart locks -Video doorbells -Alerting systems -Smart hubs and 2 months of connectivity needed to control the devices. Treatment Foster Care: Licensed foster families provide a structured and therapeutic family environment for children and youth who can safely be placed in the community but who cannot live with their biological families. The program utilizes a team based approach to help foster parents meet the emotional & behavioral needs of the children placed in their homes.

Dorcas International is currently the only agency in Rhode Island that is authorized by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees arriving to the U.S. From airport pick-up to securing housing, providing cultural orientation and intensive case management, health screenings, and enrolling children in school and adults in our in-house Educating and Training Program, we serve the immediate needs of resettled refugees. Our goal is to empower recently arrived refugees by providing them with the necessary tools and information to successfully transition into their new communities. The U.S. government places refugees in 49 states by working with none private non-profit national agencies, and Dorcas International is an affiliate partner of one of these official agencies.
