Big Bothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) was founded in 1967 as Big Sisters of Rhode Island with the purpose of providing mentors to girls facing adversity. Today, BBBSOS serves both boys and girls, in multiple, specialized mentoring programs throughout Rhode Island, and operates a successful Donation Center which funds these programs. To volunteer as a mentor you must be: At least 19 years old, Open minded and non-judgmental, Open to diversity, Willing to commit to a minimum of one year to the program (or three semesters if college student), Able to spend three or four hours each week or every other week with a child, Able to establish and maintain a one-to-one relationship with a child, Able to access an insured car or willing to take public transportation. Programs Include: Traditional Program - The Traditional Mentoring Program matches at-risk girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 15, in long-term, one-to-one relationships with adult female and male volunteer mentors. �Big Mentor League� Program - This is a special program provided by Big Sisters of Rhode Island, in partnership with the Urban League of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership working with girls & boys who have a parent currently incarcerated. The girls/boys range in age from 4 to 18 years old and are from all over Rhode Island. Hermana(o) a Hermana(o) - BBBSOS matches Latina girls/Latino boys with mentors. The girls/boys are considered to be at-risk for academic failure or delinquency or lacking a strong role model. School-Based Mentoring - This program provides mentorship to both girls and boys after class at their school. This program provides a structured environment to assist in academic success. Donation Center - The BSRI Donation Center provides a sustained source of revenue for the vital social service activities of the agency by collecting donations of gently used clothing, household items, small appliances, books and toys (also accepts TV's, computers, and other large electronics for a $10 processing fee) through a combination of scheduled home pick-ups, on-site clothing drop-offs, and targeted community clothing drives.

City View Manor is subsidized housing 62+, handicapped or disabled, 150 unit development consisting of 11 efficiency units, 134 one bedroom units, and 5 two bedroom units.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible low-income households pay their heating bills through federal grants to the household. There are two components to this program. Heating Assistance: A grant to assist a household in meeting heating costs. The grant may be paid to either a heating fuel vendor or utility company, or in a few cases, directly to the applicant. Crisis Assistance: A grant to help resolve a home heating crisis caused by a heat shut-off because of failure to pay a regulated energy bill, the inability to pay for deliverable fuel, or the failure of a heating system that is not repairable. The BEC specialist is able to assist with the application process.

South County Health offers The Patient Financial Advocacy Program to reach patients with payment and financial support options at the time of registration. The office is located at the Emergency Room entrance and is open daily. The office provides hospital care without charge to uninsured Rhode Island residents who meet income guidelines. Hospital charity care requirements cover those essential services necessary to diagnose, correct, or cure a medical condition that endangers life, causes pain and suffering, results in illness or infirmity, or causes a physical deformity or malfunction. Both inpatient and outpatient services are included. To receive full charity care, patients annual family income must be up to and including 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. For partial charity care, patients annual family income must be between 200% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level may receive assistance based on a sliding scale. In addition to income, hospitals have the option to consider other assets. Also must be denied from Medicaid first depending on income. Occupational therapists help patients regain their ability to complete everyday tasks such as dressing, bathing, or preparing meals. This may involve restoring skills the patient had before an illness or injury or teaching new skills for improving safety in the home. Occupational therapists are also available for home safety evaluations and wheelchair assessments. Modifying tasks and living areas can help make up for limits on what you can do. Occupational therapists help you: Reach optimal independence. Safely use adaptive equipment. Conserve energy and simplify work. Decrease fear of falling.

The Lincoln Housing Authority has a total of 246 units for disabled or elderly persons at two sites: 194 units at Lincoln Manor located at the housing authority and 52 units at Manville Manor located on 155 Church Street, Manville 02838. LHA also provides six units of family housing at Woodland Terrace. LHA administers 124 Housing Choice Vouchers.

A Batterers Intervention Program is a psycho-educational group led by trained professional facilitators. Each meeting is an hour and a half to two hours long, and meetings are held every week for a minimum of 20 weeks. Fees are collected, but programs can make accommodations as needed. Ask your parole officer or program staff about available options. Participants are held accountable for their attendance, must be on time, and cannot miss a meeting. Address issues of: victimization and perpetuation of abuse, substance use, mental health, domestic violence, anger management and trauma. Individuals are referred by the court and legal entities
