Adoption Options is the nonprofit, nonsectarian adoption program of Jewish Family Service with offices in Providence, Rhode Island and Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Adoption Options provides a full range of services to support families throughout the adoption process: Comprehensive services for women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Information, resources and supportive counseling before, during and after adoption. Home studies to prepare for domestic or international adoption. Domestic placement of infants. Coordination of services with other placement agencies, facilitators and adoption attorneys.

Services: Carries the basic responsibility for receiving, holding and disbursing the funds of the state; issues all general obligation notes and bonds; under the direction of the retirement board (serves as chairman), the General Treasurer is charged with the establishment and maintenance of such accounts and statistical records as the retirement board may require; maintains custody of unclaimed property; oversees the regulation and licensing of precious metals dealers and transient vendors. Residential school for boys, grades seven through twelve. Offering a full high school diploma, the school is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). **Non-profit long-term care advocacy agency, NOT a nursing home.** Works to improve the quality of life and health care for those receiving long term care services (nursing homes, assisted living residences, home health care and hospice services). Its role is to monitor long term care and address issues of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. The staff is also involved in resident and family councils and represents residents in court. Along with a Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP), the Alliance provides educational programs to the general public, health care providers and long term care consumers. Building Bridges, an inter-generational Program, brings together school children and nursing home residents to foster sensitivity and understanding between generations. The Alliance works with individuals receiving long term care services to improve their environment while maintaining respect, personal dignity, and human choice.

Public charter high school founded to serve pregnant and parenting young adults. Serve 160 students in campuses located in Providence and Central Falls. While this school is designed to serve pregnant and parenting young adults, students from all backgrounds and from all communities in Rhode Island are welcome. They provide individual non-medical assistance to improve the quality of life for those who wish to stay at home but need additional care and support. Their services range from hourly and respite care to overnight and live-in care, depending on the clients’ individual needs.

Services: Heating Assistance & Weatherization Head Start Food Distribution Emergency Services Employment and Training WIC Tri-County’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, offers assistance with managing costs associated with home energy bills. Tri-County is able to help with paying fuel and utility bills during the winter months for eligible clients, and they can arrange for the installation of home insulation to reduce home-heating costs (gas, electric, propane, oil, kerosene or wood) through our weatherization program. Weatherization Program assists low-income individuals and families to permanently reduce their energy consumption and increase energy efficiency, thereby reducing the cost of energy bills. Energy audits are conducted in the home by their staff of qualified and friendly auditors. Energy audits will determine the need for insulation, weather-stripping, air sealing, pipe wrapping, and replacement of windows. Must meet income eligibility guidelines. Food Distribution: Offers assistance with all aspects of essential needs and daily living, including food assistance. They welcome individuals to visit their food pantries once per month, and offer distribution of canned goods, pasta, grain, juice, peanut butter, rice and flour and other foods as contributed through the State of Rhode Island and purchased through the Rhode Island Food Bank. The program provides youth with work experience opportunities in local businesses, public facilities and non-profit agencies. Work experiences provide youth with hands-on opportunities to develop the skills they will need upon entering the work force. Youth receive wages and other payments upon attaining certain benchmarks relative to their job performance. Youth also participate in a variety of career and personal development activities such as community service projects, field trips, post secondary exploration, and guest speakers from key RI industries. Youth Opportunity Center: Part of the State’s Youth works 411 system, the Youth Center provides academic and occupational assessment and exploration, employment assistance, paid and unpaid work experiences, intensive case management, job coaching, leadership skills, life skills training, tracking and follow up. Open to youth ages 14 -24 years old, for both in-school and out-of-school. The Tri-County Community Action Agency Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides supplemental foods, healthcare referrals and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. Upon enrollment into the WIC program, we will complete a nutritional assessment for you and your eligible family members. We will then offer education on healthy eating, monthly vouchers for nutritious foods including eggs, milk, cheese, peanut butter, beans, tuna, fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads, rice, iron fortified cereals, and juice as well as many other valuable resources. Breastfeeding and lactation support and education are also available through the WIC program.

A private, nonsectarian, not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization that supports individuals in their recovery from mental illness and co-occurring disorders (i.e., substance use, developmental disability, related chronic health conditions). Provides access to support and resources for individuals to lead self-determined, independent, and fulfilling lives as contributing members of the community. Assists people of all ages to improve their behavioral health, well-being, and quality of life. Licensed professionals conduct individual assessments and develop person-centered treatment plans. Individuals are seen by a psychiatrist or a psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication management, and individual and group therapy are available. Providence Center-(Prairie) Provides: behavioral health services ranging from emergency services, general and intensive community-based outpatient treatment, substance use treatment, and other services. They may offer vocational and supported employment services, navigators who can help you get health insurance, tax preparation assistance, and housing supports. If receiving services as a child, assistance with transition to adult services or programs are provided within or outside the agency. The Community Mental Health Centers are regionally based as indicated below. However, as a Rhode Island resident, you may access services at any CMHC. Anyone experiencing a crisis can walk into a Community Mental Health Center during their normal business hours and they will provide treatment. In addition to 24 hour/seven days a week nursing care, Saint Antoine Residence offers the following special services: Special Care Unit The Special Care Unit is a 60-bed unit for residents with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The Unit provides a safe, structured environment that meets physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs throughout the disease progression. An emphasis is placed on residents succeeding, dignity, and support of family members. Short Term Rehabilitative Care Short Term Rehabilitative Care is designed for individuals in need of rehabilitation following hip or knee replacement, heart attack, stroke, or other acute medical event. Our goal is to rehabilitate individuals to restore their previous level of functioning with the goal of returning back to their home. Skilled nursing services; on-site physical, occupational, and speech therapies are available. Short term stays range from one week to several weeks, depending upon the individual’s medical condition. Hospice Suite The Hospice Suite provides care for terminally ill individuals who qualify for general inpatient level of care. The Suite affords residents a lovely homelike environment with ample room for visiting family members.

Programs that intercede on behalf of individuals and/or groups to ensure that they receive the benefits and services for which they are eligible and that organizations within the established service delivery system meet the collective needs of the community; that attempt to marshal public support for a particular issue or cause; or that seek to influence legislation, local ordinances or administrative rulings in order to benefit specific interest groups or achieve specific social, political or environmental goals.

Spaying: We sponsor several low-cost spaying/neutering clinics annually; Pet Adoption: Our program is an alternative to local dog pounds and shelters. Defenders works with pet owners that need to find homes for their companion animals. Legal Assistance: Defenders of Animals has assisted individuals with legal research and assistance in obtaining an attorney. Rewards: Defenders offers rewards up to $2000 for information leading to the apprehension, conviction and sentencing of the person(s) guilty of crimes of cruelty. Advocacy: Defenders of Animals will advocate on behalf of stray, abandoned animals and wildlife and pet owners when it is appropriate.
