Youth Transition For young people with disability, life before completing high school is very different than life afterwards. OSCIL provides a variety of services to help students and recent graduates gain the skills and resources needed to make this transition into adulthood. Assisting youth in transitioning from high school to adult life is a core service provided by OSCIL, including next steps such as going to college or finding employment. Programs that provide a graded system of learning in a formal school setting from grades nine or 10 through 12 for adolescents who usually range in age from 13 or 14 to 18. High schools provide formal instruction for students who want to prepare themselves for further education at the college/university level as well as those who prefer to seek employment immediately after high school graduation. The curriculum for students who are planning to terminate their formal education focuses on vocational preparation whereas that for college/university-bound students focuses on providing the required number of hours of instruction in targeted subjects to enable them to meet college/university entrance requirements.

RSVP volunteers recruit and manage other volunteers, participate in environmental projects, mentor and tutor children, deliver meals to the homebound and respond to natural disasters, among many other activities.

For youth who have been adjudicated as delinquent and those awaiting trial for serious offenses, residential programming is conducted at the RI Training School which provides a secure, structured program or comprehensive services including clinical and educational services. All youth detained receive educational services in accordance with their academic level and/or specific individual education plan.
